    Qualifications

    Education
    Doctorate In medicine from an approved program. Required
    Other Completion of a postgraduate training program in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology with added qualifications in Medical Oncology and or hematology Required

    Experience
    None Completion of an approved fellowship program in oncology or hematology/oncology. Required
    None Experience writing and conducting therapeutic oncology trials. Required

    Licenses and Certifications
    Physician\PHYS - Physician Eligible for a medical license or Institutional Permit issued by the AZ Medical Board Required

    Responsibilities

    Job Summary
    Functions as a specialist physician in performing duties involving direct care of patients with advanced malignancies and those receiving treatment on clinical trials. Evaluates new patients and formulates treatment plan under supervision of the assigned faculty member. The level of direction and guidance received from the assigned faculty member varies according to the individual's knowledge, skill and years of experience, as determined by the assigned faculty member.

    The TCRS Drug Development Scholar Program provides one-two years of intense training that will include clinical trials development, patient recruitment and follow up, statistical analysis, bioinformatics and regulatory affairs. The Drug Development Scholar is expected to abide by all hospital and Medical Staff policies and procedures and participate fully in the educational activities of the Drug Development Scholar Program.

    Staff member must demonstrate knowledge of internal medicine and hematology/oncology and demonstrate the skills necessary to provide direct and indirect care appropriate
    to the needs of patients admitted on his/her assigned unit. The individual must possess the ability to assess each patient's requirements relative to his/her medical and age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the Department Operating Policies.

    • Evaluates new patients, formulates treatment plans in consultation with assigned faculty members. Responsible for care, follow up and toxicity management of assigned patients.
    • Participate in Clinical Trials design and implementation including data management, necessary decisions related to protocol adherence as well as necessary changes and amendments to improve feasibility as well as patient safety. Evaluates preclinical data to select whether or not a new agent is a good candidate for entry into human subject research. Writes a Phase I and/or Phase II Clinical Trial protocol through approval of IRB and sponsor. Evaluates patients for Phase I and Phase II clinical trial participation. Obtains patient consent. Serves as co-principal investigator and sub-investigator on colleagues’ protocols. Submits at least two manuscripts for publication and one grant application during participation in the Program. Undertakes laboratory research of drug development steps.
    • Attends Phase I rounds, protocol review and weekly tumor boards. Attends conference calls.
