    Job Summary
    The HISTOTECHNICIAN performs technical procedures in the histology section of the laboratory including fixes, sections and stains tissue.
    • Sections tissue using a microtome insuring correct thickness, without sectioning artifact, and places tissue on a glass slide for staining.
    • Embeds tissue to insure correct orientation and positioning for sectioning.
    • Process tissue to insure adequate fixation.
    • Provides for the H&E staining of tissue and for coverslipping.
    • Performs quality control functions according to section guidelines.
    • Performs and documents instrument function verification, preventative maintenance, and troubleshooting on all equipment to ensure proper operation.
    • Actively participates in laboratory programs established for the purpose of maintaining/improving the quality of laboratory services, individual growth, and safety in the work environment
    • Ensures compliance with CAP regulations, hospital compliance programs, the Laboratory Safety Management Plan, departmental policies and procedures.
    • Assists in maintaining current policy and procedure manuals to aide employees in performing defined protocols.
    • Performs filing duties as necessary.
