    High School Diploma or GED Required

    Other 0-2 years medical front office experience. Required

    Licenses and Certifications
    Other Must demonstrate proficiency in Electronic Health Record post hire by attending required training and passing proficiency test. Required


    Job Summary
    The Medical Receptionist PN is responsible for greeting patients, verifying insurance and collecting patient co-payments. May complete referrals as requested. Provides quality phone service by scheduling patients or referring caller to appropriate party. Maintains that patient information is accurate and charts/paperwork is filed correctly.
    • 1.Responds and complies with requests for information via most appropriate method, including fax.
      •Responsible for completing all requests within timeframes as established by office policy.
      •Follow rules and regulations of confidentiality protection as it relates to patient information.
      •Delivers information to patient care or other designated areas including provider offices.
      •May do referrals as requested.
      •Responsible for keeping up to date with plan participation changes as demonstrated by observation.
    • 2.Maintains information to be accurate and filed correctly.
      •Places documents in the correct files.
      •Retrieves and enters information accurately using computer software.
      •Verifies patient demographic information is complete, accurate and current with each visit.
    • 3.Maintains the reception area in an organized manner and provides support for the front office.
      •Greets patients and visitors and determines their needs. Assists patients in completion of new patient paperwork to ensure proper and complete billing information is obtained.
      •Performs clerical duties, typing, creating charts and distributing mail and maintaining supplies as required.
      •Assists with training other staff as needed. Assists with the needs of others in the department when necessary.
      •Performs duties related to patient checkout as established.
      •Verifies insurance and collects patient co-pays.
    • 4.Provides quality phone service by scheduling or referring caller to appropriate party and takes messages as needed.
      •Schedules patients for exams, appointments, and follow-up visit accurately and efficiently.
    • 5. Continually maintains Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other JCLHN compliance requirements.
      •Enters non-clinical information into patient electronic medical record (EMR) system. Ensures all required information is keyed in thoroughly and accurately.
      •Views non-clinical information in EMR.
      •Independently formulates information to be entered into EMR.
      •Obtains information to be entered from multiple sources such as providers, nurses, etc.
      •Logs, tracks, and resolves issues within specific timeframe to ensure accuracy and timeliness of data entry.
      •Brings errors and/or issues to the attention of designee
      •Navigates through multiple complex EMR screens and enters data. Performs other duties as assigned.
