POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing personalized and professional coordination and communication regarding all financial aspects of care for those patients being cared for within the bone marrow transplant or hematological malignancy programs. The coordinator serves as a point of contact for BMT staff and clinicians, as well as patients, in ensuring that patients have adequate insurance coverage for pre-transplant evaluation, transplant procedures, and subsequent aftercare. Additionally, the coordinator will also provide this same support for non-transplant patients belonging to the hematologic malignancy service, including leukemic patients and those moving forward with clinical trials. This coordination includes providing education to patients and families regarding their financial obligations, offering information regarding additional health coverage for which they may qualify, and assisting in the procurement of additional information from specific agencies and managed care organizations. Such role is also responsible for coordination and verification of benefits and authorization in both hospital and physician billing environments.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE:

* 4 years patient accounts experience and 4 years registration/managed care referral experience

* Knowledge of insurance verification and hospital registration systems
