    Qualifications

    Education
    Master's Degree Physical Therapy OR a Master’s Degree in Speech Pathology OR a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university, prior to starting employment and is awaiting Arizona state licensure Required

    Experience
    Successful completion of clinical rotations as defined by the accredited university. Required

    Responsibilities

    Job Summary
    The Therapist Extern has graduated or will be eligible to graduate within 90 days with a degree in Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Speech Pathology from an accredited university and is awaiting Arizona state licensure. Performs assigned treatment procedures as directed under the on-site supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Speech Pathologist. Note that incumbent must pass licensure examination within 90 days after the date of classification into this position. Should this deadline not be met, staff member will be reclassified to Rehab Aide I or terminated as appropriate per the discretion of the department Director.

    The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate for the age of the patients served. They must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth development of the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status. They must interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
    • Assists in the treatment of patients by preparing the room and patient for treatment with the appropriate equipment and materials, including gown/draping of patient as appropriate, observes/records the performance of patient’s exercise program as directed by therapist, ambulates patients as directed by therapist and assists therapist in gait/transfer training with patients requiring assist of 2 persons.
    • Maintains department/gym in neat and orderly manner and stocks linens as needed.
    • Maintains record of hydrocollator temperatures and cleaning list, according to department guidelines and the policy and procedure manual. Reports equipment in need of repair or maintenance to supervisor.
    • Inventories stocked items in department on regular schedule, according to individual site guidelines. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
